MARDI GRAS REVIEW

For those of us who were unable to celebrate on Bourbon Street in New Orleans and in keeping with our annual tradition, Schooner celebrated it’s very own annual Mardi Gras festival on March 4th. As usual, Chef Mike Morton and his crew outdid themselves with a delectable New Orleans style buffet feast. Authentic breads and King cakes were flown up from New Orleans! Gus Turbide entertained all with an entertaining keyboard performance while residents and staff alike thoroughly enjoyed themselves! We would like to thank all who attended and hope everyone had a fabulous time!

TIME TO TRAVEL

At Schooner, we have dedicated ourselves to our philosophy: to provide the opportunity to experience a gracious lifestyle for those who desire continued independence through active retirement, to present friendship and a feeling of belonging to a caring and interesting community.  To help fulfill this commitment, we provide wonderful events and day and overnight excursions, giving all who live here the opportunity to be active and enjoy life.  For your “viewing” enjoyment, here are a few photos, including our Fashion Show, Rangeley and Bar Harbor trips.

SAM THE CAT

We all know him as “Sam the Maintenance Cat” –  he can be seen, every now and then, walking about on the Schooner grounds.  Sam is a stray cat, adopted and taken care of through caring donations from residents and employees.  In order to help him through another winter, Holiday themed coasters, specially made by Schooner Residential Care resident Bob Dunham, are being sold in the display case, located in the Village Green.  We are hoping to purchase a comfy “Igloo shelter” for Sam.  The coasters are being sold – 4 for $10.00.  Also, special orders for coasters can be taken.

Thank you everyone for your support!

MONTHLY GIVE BACK

For the month of October, “The Root Cellar”, in Lewiston, was the destination for our monthly “Give Back” program.  The Root Cellar was established in 1984 in a dirt floor church basement in Portland, Maine. Recognizing the need for a place where teens could come as an alternative to the streets, and in some cases their homes, a handful of volunteers provided a positive place where teens could drop in.

After almost 30 years of hard work and determination, The Root Cellar is still as committed as ever to serving and loving our neighbors, especially the youth.

THANKSGIVING MENU

The holiday season is slowly sneaking up on us. Next month we celebrate Thanksgiving! Here at Schooner we are delighted to provide our residents with the traditional quintessential Thanksgiving dishes. Take a look at the fabulous feast we have in store for you this year!

EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION 2013

The Village Green was filled to the brim with staff members and residents, attending the 2013 Employee Recognition Ceremony. Awards for years of service and performance were presented … Kudos to all for another great year!  All employees received years of service pins along with a spectacular Schooner jacket. Special recognition was given those who have reached milestone anniversaries for 5, 10, 15 and 20 years. A huge round of applause went out to Chris Boivin, maintenance worker, as he was announced Employee of the Year!  Congratulations Chris, you certainly deserve this year’s title!
